IT Financial Controlling Intern

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a IT Financial Controlling Intern to join our Global IT Strategy, Governance & Value team, based in Bologna, Italy.

 

Scope of the role:

 

The IT Financial Controlling Intern supports the financial planning, monitoring, and governance of the IT function. Working closely with IT, Finance, Procurement, and business stakeholders, this role helps ensure budget control, cost transparency, and effective management of IT investments across projects, applications, infrastructure, and services.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated early-career professional who wants to build expertise in IT financial management, reporting, forecasting, and business partnering in an international environment. Previous professional experience is not mandatory.

 

Your role:

 

•  Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and planning activities for the IT organization.

•  Monitor IT operating and project costs, helping identify variances, risks, and improvement opportunities.

•  Prepare financial reports, dashboards, KPIs, and management presentations.

•  Support month-end activities related to IT costs, accruals, allocations, and financial controls.

•  Collaborate with Finance teams to support accurate cost allocation, capitalization, and reporting.

•  Contribute to investment analysis and business cases for IT projects and digital initiatives.

•  Support monitoring of contracts, purchase orders, and vendor spending in collaboration with Procurement and IT managers.

•  Contribute to financial governance processes and compliance with company policies and internal controls.

•  Help improve financial processes, reporting quality, and cost transparency.

•  Partner with IT stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and resource planning.

 

Who are you:

 

You are analytical, curious, and detail-oriented. You enjoy working with numbers, understanding business processes, and turning data into clear, actionable insights. You are eager to learn and grow in a role that combines Finance, IT, and business partnering.

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Management Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous professional experience is not required; internships, academic projects, or first exposure to controlling, FP&A, reporting, or finance processes are considered a plus.
  • Good understanding of basic finance concepts such as budgeting, forecasting, cost control, reporting, and management accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence in working with data, analysis, and presentations.
  • Knowledge of SAP, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Controlling, SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, or similar reporting tools is considered a plus, not a prerequisite.
  • Strong analytical mindset, accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work with different stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain financial information clearly.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
