Commercial Assessment Lead

THE ROLE 

The Commercial Assessment Lead will be responsible for driving high-quality commercial evaluations of pipeline and in-licensing opportunities, life cycle management options, and strategic business development initiatives. This role will partner cross-functionally with Global Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Competitive Intelligence, Finance, and R&D to assess the commercial potential of assets, inform portfolio decision-making, and guide investment priorities. 

 

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills, deep understanding of pharmaceutical markets, and the ability to translate market insights into strategic recommendations. 

The Commercial Assessment Lead will be responsible for:  

 

Commercial Assessments & Forecasting 

  • Lead the end-to-end commercial evaluation process for pipeline assets, BD/licensing opportunities, and LCM initiatives
  • Develop robust global revenue forecasts incorporating epidemiology, market dynamics, competitive landscape, and pricing assumptions
  • Build scenario models to evaluate risk, upside, and market access considerations 

 

Strategic Insights & Recommendations 

  • Partner with Market Research, CI, Market Access and Medical to synthesize insights into actionable recommendations
  • Deliver commercial assessments to governance committees and senior leadership with clear rationale and strategic implications
  • Identify unmet needs and market opportunities to guide portfolio strategy 

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with R&D and Global Medical Affairs to integrate commercial perspective into Target Product Profiles (TPPs) and development plans
  • Collaborate with Finance on NPV and valuation models for business development opportunities
  • Partner with Regional Commercial teams to validate assumptions and ensure global–local alignment 

 

Decision Support 

  • Provide clear, data-driven recommendations for go/no-go decisions
  • Contribute to portfolio prioritization discussions by highlighting commercial attractiveness and strategic fit
  • Maintain and update market models to reflect latest assumptions and intelligence 

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE and competencies 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business and/or scientific field is required; Post-graduate qualification such as MBA and/or MSc highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of work experience within major markets in the pharma /biotech industry, ideally in commercial assessment, portfolio strategy, strategic marketing, or business development
  • Proven track record in building and presenting robust revenue forecasts and market models, advanced financial modeling and Excel skills
  • Track record in getting to key product insights by analyzing market trends and engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (with medical affairs where needed)
  • Experience with global launches and lifecycle management strategies preferred
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences at all levels of the organization; demonstrated presentation skills
  • Drive for results; must have a personal commitment to producing quality work while working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Ability to constructively challenge and influence the decision-making process
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to details with the ability to interpret data and provide data-driven recommendations
  • Strategic vision combined with operational pragmatism
