Global Medical Director Gastroenterology Specialty Care

The Position:
Within the Global Medical Affairs Team, that is part of the R&D organization, the Medical Director Gastroenterology has a business-critical role to drive the global Medical Affairs strategy and execute on the medical action plan in close partnership with the commercial part of the organization. The focus of this role lies in supporting rifaximin, one of our key assets while at the same time being the key medical representative of the gastroenterology therapeutic area team for the development of new assets. This person should therefore have relevant work experience, skills, and competencies in order to:
• Lead and develop the global medical strategy and action plan for gastroenterology
• Align with the Head of the Global Medical Affairs Strategy Team and work with cross-functional stakeholders on the annual strategy
• Act as product and disease area expert to develop and implement various materials and activities for internal and external purposes
• Interact with key external stakeholders in alignment with customer needs and medical strategy to obtain insights and lead complex projects
• Lead and contribute to data generation and interpretation including publications
• Work cross-functionally with the R&D as well as the commercial side of the organization and in close partnership with the countries
Key Responsibilities:
• Align with the Head of the Global Medical Affairs Strategy Team to ensure that the execution of the medical activities are on track within the global brand strategy and within budget
• Lead or participate in globally focused meetings as needed to support the launch and in-market success of Alfasigma products
• Act as internal expert on Alfasigma products in gastroenterology specialty care and the therapeutic area and provide scientific advice to other colleagues accordingly (e.g. medical training, regulatory affairs, business development)
• Facilitate appropriate interpretation of insights and drive follow up of actions
• Develop and advise on scientific content and strategy around products in development, pre-launch, launch and in market-related activities and materials such as executing advisory boards and presentations for scientific exchange
• Demonstrate leadership in the process of data generation, interpretation and data display
• Support with data generation needs, such as medical review of investigator-initiated research proposals, real-world Data, registries, clinical studies, post-hoc analyses, etc
• Bring unsolicited grants through the grant approval process
• Execute on scientific communication and training including key materials and alignment with countries
• Conduct and lead medical review and approval of materials
• Lead specific scientific projects to further advance understanding of the benefit: risk of Alfasigma products
• Ensure the patient voice is embedded in activities from bench to bedside while working with the patient advocacy team
• Advance understanding of the therapeutic landscape to identify opportunities for scientific leadership to meet patient needs
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance and Regulatory to ensure proper and ethical interactions both with internal and external stakeholders
• Ensure that developed materials and events are in compliance with Alfasigma SOP’s and policies
Education:
• A medical or scientific degree (Ph.D. or Pharm D) is strongly preferred
• 7-10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, and skilled in working in cross-functional matrix teams, including above country experience is required
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in medical affairs in Gastroenterology
• Experience in the field of anti-infectives is preferred
• Experience in field-based roles (e.g. Field Medical Director, Medical Science Liaison)
• Experience in designing, planning, and executing on advisory boards, medical education at international symposia, internal medical communication as well as driving data generation and data display is required
• Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with experts within gastroenterology
• Experience preparing global launches for products as well as launching a drug in country is strongly preferred
• A genuine interest to advance science and healthcare in these areas to ultimately meet patient’s needs
