Sr. Director, HR Business Partner Corporate Enabling Functions
Alfasigma is a privately held global healthcare company founded over 75 years ago in Italy, where it remains headquartered today in Bologna and Milan. The Group operates in over 100 markets spanning Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Africa.
Over three years ago, we embarked on a transformative journey to become a truly global innovative healthcare company with a leading focus on Gastrointestinal (GI) health. We have experienced remarkable growth, nearly doubled our revenues, expanding geographically, and integrating several key acquisitions. We have also evolved our portfolio, expanded into rare and specialty segments, and strengthened our pipeline and people's capabilities.
But our journey is far from complete! In fact, this is just the beginning of a bold new chapter in Alfasigma's history. We are committed to advancing innovation and leveraging our deep expertise to provide better health and a better quality of life for patients and consumers worldwide and expand our reach across diverse markets.
Scope of the role :
The HR Business Partner for Corporate Functions serves as the primary HR partner to Alfasigma's central functions (including Finance, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Communications, and Group IT) operating at both strategic and operational levels. This role exists to translate business priorities into people strategies that strengthen organisational capability, drive cultural alignment, and support leaders across these functions in building high-performing teams.
Reporting directly to the Group CHRO, the HRBP Corporate Functions plays a key role in embedding Group HR frameworks and initiatives into day-to-day functional life, while also acting as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior function heads. Given Alfasigma's current phase of international expansion and organisational evolution, this role requires both strategic rigour and genuine agility.
Your key responsibilities:
Strategic HR Partnership
- Partner with senior leaders across assigned corporate functions to develop and execute people plans that align with both function-specific goals and the Group's overall strategy.
- Provide expert guidance on organisational design, workforce planning, and capability assessment, with a particular focus on enabling Alfasigma's international growth agenda.
- Act as a change management advisor during periods of structural or cultural transformation, helping leaders navigate complexity and maintain engagement.
Talent & Performance
- Drive the full talent cycle within assigned functions, including succession planning, performance calibration, high-potential identification, and development planning.
- Partner with the Group Talent team to ensure corporate function talent is well-integrated into Group-wide programmes and pipelines.
- Provide data-informed insights on workforce trends and capability gaps to inform both short-term decisions and longer-term planning.
Culture & Employee Experience
- Champion Alfasigma's culture and the Golinelli family's values, (including commitment to people, quality, and long-term impact) in how HR programmes are designed and delivered within functions.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and ensure leadership behaviours across functions reinforce the kind of environment Alfasigma is building.
HR Operations & Governance
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations matters with sound judgement, ensuring compliance with Italian labour law and relevant international frameworks.
- Collaborate closely with Centres of Excellence (Compensation & Benefits, L&D, Talent Acquisition) to deliver integrated, consistent HR support to client functions.
- Ensure the accurate and timely execution of core HR processes, including annual review cycles, job evaluation, and headcount management, within assigned functions.
Who are you:
Must Have
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a business partner role supporting corporate or enabling functions in a complex, multinational environment.
- Solid grounding in Italian employment law and HR practice; familiarity with international HR frameworks (particularly US or other European contexts) is a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and to influence at all levels without positional authority.
- Experience navigating organisational change, whether structural, cultural, or people-related, with a track record of landing initiatives that stick.
- Strong analytical mindset, comfortable using HR data to tell a story, challenge assumptions, and support decision-making.
- Fluency in Italian and English (both written and spoken) is essential; additional languages are welcomed.
Nice to Have
- Background in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare sector, with an appreciation of how regulatory and scientific contexts shape people priorities.
- Experience working within a family-owned or privately held company, where culture, ownership values, and long-term thinking play a prominent role.
- Exposure to post-merger integration or cross-border organisational consolidation.
