Director, Value & Access (USA Rare Disease)

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Director, Value & Access, to join the USA Rare Disease team (Intercept Pharmaceuticals subsidiary).

 

Scope of the role:

The Director of Value & Access is responsible for developing and executing integrated market access strategies that optimize patient access, reimbursement, and product value throughout the product lifecycle. This role partners across Commercial, Brand Marketing, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Pricing, Regulatory, Legal, Government Affairs, Patient Services, and Sales to ensure market access considerations are incorporated into strategic planning and commercialization activities.

 

The Director serves as a strategic leader and trusted business partner, translating payer insights, health policy trends, and customer needs into actionable strategies that enhance formulary positioning, demonstrate value to healthcare decision-makers, and improve patient access. The role also leads external agency partners to develop high-impact value communications, payer engagement tools, and market access resources aligned with brand objectives.

 

Your key responsibilities:

Market Access Strategy

•     Develop and execute comprehensive market access strategies that support successful product launches and lifecycle management

•     Integrate payer, provider, patient, and health system insights into brand strategy and commercial decision-making

•     Identify market dynamics, reimbursement trends, policy changes, and competitive developments that influence access and brand performance

•     Provide strategic recommendations to Brand Leadership Teams regarding access risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies

 

Cross-Functional Leadership

•     Serve as the Value & Access representative on cross-functional brand teams

•     Partner closely with Brand Marketing, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Pricing, Government Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Sales Leadership, Patient Services, and Commercial Operations

•     Ensure alignment between commercial strategy, clinical evidence, pricing, and market access objectives

•     Influence strategic decisions through collaboration and executive-level communication

 

Value Proposition Development

•     Lead development of compelling payer value propositions supported by clinical, economic, and real-world evidence

•     Partner with HEOR to prioritize evidence generation that addresses payer and health technology assessment needs

•     Guide development of AMCP dossiers, payer value stories, budget impact models, and economic communications

•     Ensure all value communications accurately reflect product differentiation and address customer evidence requirements

 

Product Launch & Commercialization

•     Lead market access planning for product launches and new indications

•     Develop launch readiness plans, payer engagement strategies, reimbursement resources, and access communications

•     Identify access barriers and implement proactive solutions that support successful commercialization

•     Collaborate with Commercial Excellence and Brand teams to establish launch metrics and monitor performance

 

Customer Engagement Strategy

•     Develop strategies that address the evolving needs of commercial health plans, Medicare, Medicaid, PBMs, integrated delivery networks, health systems, and employer customers

•     Utilize payer insights and customer feedback to refine engagement strategies and value messaging

•     Support field market access teams through strategic guidance and development of customer-facing resources

 

Agency & Vendor Leadership

•     Lead external agency partners responsible for market access communications, payer marketing, market research, analytics, and strategic consulting

•     Establish clear strategic direction, prioritize initiatives, and ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based materials

•     Manage agency performance, project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation

 

Business Planning & Financial Management

•     Contribute to the annual brand planning process, portfolio strategy, and long-range commercial planning

•     Manage Value & Access project budgets and external vendor relationships

•     Evaluate investment opportunities and recommend initiatives that maximize business impact and return on investment

 

Executive Communication

•     Present market access strategies and recommendations to senior leadership

•     Translate complex healthcare policy, reimbursement, and competitive information into actionable business insights

•     Influence key stakeholders through data-driven recommendations and strategic leadership

 

Who you are:

•     Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MPH, PharmD, MS, or other advanced degree preferred

•     10+ years of progressive experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry

•     Ability to work onsite in the Morristown, NJ office on a hybrid basis highly preferred (minimum 3 days per week); may be willing to consider highly qualified remote candidates

•     Ability to travel up to 5% required, which may include overnight and/or weekend travel

•     Significant experience in Market Access, Value & Access, Commercial Strategy, or related commercial functions

•     Demonstrated success supporting pharmaceutical product launches and commercialization

•     Strong understanding of US payer landscape, reimbursement systems, pricing, contracting, and healthcare policy

•     Experience partnering with HEOR, Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Brand teams

•     Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority

•     Experience managing external agencies and strategic partners

•     Learning agility and ‘scalability’ to take on increasing responsibility as Alfasigma grows

Compensation & Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000. This represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position.  Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including, but not limited to, experience, skillset, and performance.
