Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs

As we continue to grow, we are seeking Vice President, Medical Affairs to join our Rare Disease team (Intercept Pharmaceuticals subsidiary). This is a hybrid position located in our Morristown, NJ office.

Scope of the role:

This executive will be strategic, dynamic, highly collaborative, and will bring significant medical affairs leadership experience for both development programs and marketed products. They will provide strategy and leadership for the Medical Affairs organization and will work closely with a cross-functional group that includes Research & Development, Commercial, Government Affairs, and Corporate Communications to drive scientific and medical strategies and alignment with broader corporate and patient needs. This person must have the ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment, have a successful track record of delivering results, and recruiting/coaching and developing people.

 

This leader is expected to have a strong commitment to achieving corporate objectives while maintaining the highest ethical, regulatory, and scientific standards.

 

Your key responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership in creating and executing medical affairs strategies and delivering results.
  • Conceive and execute strategic creative methods for advancing medical affairs goals.
  • Responsible for medical interpretation of data (clinical trials, registries, published literature, etc.) for in-development and marketed compounds; review clinical trials and community-based grants, as needed.
  • Partner with KOLs to gather information on current focused therapeutic area issues and questions.
  • Provide leadership to field medical team (i.e. Medical Science Liaisons). Provide support, participation, and insight in MSL activities, such as KOL interactions.
  • Support the Commercial team with the development of educational material for providers and patients that is medically accurate and appropriate.
  • Partner with the Health Economics group to support evidence generation required for reimbursement authorities.
  • Possess understanding of government and industry guidelines, regulations, laws, etc., for appropriate scientific and medical exchange and communication with customers.
  • Integrate Medical Affairs objectives with those of Clinical Development and Commercial Operations to ensure programs meet the needs of all constituents.
  • Serve as a key member of the Alfasigma leadership team in shaping its vision and future direction.

 

Who are you:

  • Medical degree required with 15+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, rare disease desired.
  • Broad, senior leadership experience in medical affairs required.
  • Experience in Hepatic, Cardiovascular, Metabolic, GI, or Inflammatory disease-based therapeutics desired.
  • Strong understanding of drug development, regulatory, and commercialization processes. Launch experience strongly preferred.
  • Substantial executive presence, with exceptional relationship management and interpersonal skills to partner effectively with key stakeholders and leaders internally and externally to influence strategic direction of complex issues, solicit information, persuade others, and shape outcomes.
  • Excellent strategic skills with the ability to influence decisions at a senior level, both internally and externally.
  • Proactive, forward thinker with the ability to think innovatively about medical affairs strategy and accurately anticipate future consequences and trends.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, as well as a proven track record of working effectively in diverse teams involving multi-functional disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability in driving results to a positive outcome. Track record of delivering outstanding results in pharmaceutical product development and/or life cycle management.
  • Proven ability to develop internal relationships in a highly matrixed environment, as well as external relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and industry experts.
  • Able to communicate completely, transparently, and succinctly at all levels and present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; high-level negotiation skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $325,000 to $400,000. This represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position.  Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including, but not limited to, experience, skillset, and performance.
