As we continue to grow, we are seeking Vice President, US Market Access
Scope of the role:
This role will be responsible for all payer access, pricing, contracting, channel, government affairs and patient support programs. Additionally, the role will ensure that our Intercept market access model meets evolving complex healthcare trends and is scalable for future pipeline assets as well as business development opportunities. The role will be a part of the US Executive Leadership team and Commercial Leadership team and will report directly to the President, U.S.
Your key responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the Market Access strategy for any future marketed products in the U.S.
- Advise senior leadership on key access policies and reimbursement practices affecting corporate objectives, qualify and quantify risks and opportunities and make recommendations for specific action for Intercept to take.
- Ensure payer requirements appropriately incorporated relevant R&D activities, including regulatory and clinical development.
- Develop value dossier and core economic models, including but not limited to burden of disease, cost effectiveness,
- Provide clarity to Medical Affairs on the Health Outcomes and Real World Evidence data requirements to support access and partner with them closely to ensure deliverables are relevant.
- Recommend access strategy working closely with broader commercial organization to define strategic options, including launch sequence, pricing, target patient segments, government regulatory implications.
- Chair the pricing committee and serve as a voting member
- Where possible, co-ordinate the implementation of early patient access program both pre and post marketing authorization are in place in partnership with medical and regulatory
- Work with global and local Business Development teams to provide input to the commercial assessment of potential assets, develop early access strategy and support distributor partners as required.
- Ensure generation of additional data required to support plans through clinical development and medical affairs.
- Input to the publication of Health Economic models to maximize patient access
- Develop communication and publication plans for payers, that are aligned to commercial strategy and ensure consistency of implementation pre and post marketing authorization.
- Collaborate with market research to ensure payer research is appropriate and generates insights and data required.
- Ensure Market Access is embedded in brand and development teams and strategic and operation plans
- Track performance against agreed KPI metrics for access.
- Develop and track Market Access budgets
- Work with the Commercial organization to support the development of market access capabilities, talent acquisition and development.
Who are you:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in Market Access in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry
- Proven high achievement in national account management, direct contract strategy, negotiations, business development, and strategic planning.
- Ideally the candidate has therapeutic experience in liver, metabolic and/or cardiovascular disease
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to change payer perception of a market and in particular to establish unmet needs and the use of surrogate endpoints.
- Commercial leadership experience will be seen as a significant advantage as this role has to be able to partner closely with the broader commercial organization as the market access strategy is a core component to define the go to market strategy for new launches.
- Demonstrated success in a small but fast growing, entrepreneurial commercial environment.
Expertise in public policy and external communication.
- Proven ability of successfully managing complexity across multi-functional reports and building strong relationships.
- Proven track record in operating at a senior executive level and influencing without direct line management authority.
- Well-developed analytical and strategic skills with entrepreneurial insight and a pragmatic approach.
- A strong business orientation and the ability to view issues from multiple functional perspectives, while managing organizational ambiguity.
- Track record of success in leading a national team
- Deep understanding of the US payer and health system environment and account management within biopharmaceutical arena in orphan/specialty therapeutics
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strategic mindset while also being disciplined and detail oriented
- Demonstrated success in driving innovation into action
- Strong analytical skills to be able to do both qualitative and quantitative assessments
- Demonstrated leadership of team and employee development in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to operate effectively in an evolving organizational structure with minimal direction
- Ability to engage and influence multiple stakeholders to achieve the objective often times without direct authority
- Scientific and/or quantitative rigor to understand and extract meaningful insights from market analytics, scientific data, clinical/medical practice patterns, and evolving technologies
- Ability to travel as needed
